It’s 2001 and the girl from the seaside wants to act. It’s 2003 and the teen in the medical drama wants love. It’s 2009 and the woman in LA wants a job. It’s 2012 and the creature wants revenge.
The Woman in the Film is an interdisciplinary play that explores the treatment of female characters and actresses in commercial film. Following an unnamed woman from age seventeen to thirty, the play delves into the metamorphosis actresses undergo to survive, and asks: what happens when the parts you play become who you are?
Inspired by IMDB’s top 100 films and the myth of Arachne, The Woman in the Film questions the murky relationship between stardom and monstrosity through a bold fusion of theatre, music and cameras.
